It is with great regret that we announce the death of Dr István Sárvári on 1st November, 2015 in Hungary.
Dr Sárvári carried out meticulous potato breeding with his father and mother and later, for many years, on his own. We have to thank this talented breeder for many new varieties of potatoes with excellent blight resistance; virus resistance and other traits also fit them for sustainable, low-input growing. Our Sarvari Research Trust was formed to help the Sárvári family test breeding stock for resistance to late-blight disease and to promote the Sarpo varieties to growers as widely as possible. At the Sarvari Research Trust, we are keeping alive the memory of Dr Sárvári and we continue to exploit his germplasm in breeding new varieties with low-input traits.
